a. May 31, 1862 letter "Camp near Richmond, Virginia" from Henry Cushman to his half brother, J. Halsey Cushman, whom he addressed as "brother". From the letter it is evident that he was part of or witnessed the battle known as "Fair Oaks" or "Seven Pines".
b. Explanation of the events described in this letter written by John J. Baker of "Bennington-on-the-hill", March 26, 1874.
