Title Towns: Morestown: General
Dates of Creation 1772
Scope & Content Two surveyor's diaries dated August 28, 1772 and September [14], 1772. Survey area from Colonel Peters to the mouth of the Onion River, part of Otter Creek. Crew of seven included Phineas Lyman for surveyor, [Wilber] Butterfield, Thomas Butterfield, Aaron Hand, Amos [Rick], and Daniel Whipple.
Administrative/Biographical History Colonel Peters is probably Colonel John Peters (1740-1788) appointed to lead a Loyalist regiment that traveled with Burgoyne and was dispatched with Colonel Baum on his expedition to Bennington. That this was a 'Yorker' survey crew surveying the area of Onion River and Otter Creek makes it probable that they were surveying Allen and friends' lands, and lucky they were not discovered.
