Deed dated, January 14, 1761 and signed by Stephen Fay of Hardwich, Massachussetts in the County of Worcester and the Province of Massachussetts in New England. Fay is selling a parcel of land to Samuel Robinson Esq. who paid thirty-six pounds for the land in Massachussetts. Of note is the reference to Bennington as a town in New Hampshire although it has been crossed out. As Bennington had not yet been settled. The reference points made in the document are Greenwich, Massachussetts and Hatfield, Massachussetts. Mention is also made to King George the Third as the ruler of Great Britian, France, and Ireland. |

Stephen Fay was one of the early settlers of Bennington, Vermont. He was the owner Fay's Tavern which later became the Catamount Tavern. The Samuel Robinson refered to in the document is unknown although it is likely Samuel Robinson Jr. |
