Administrative/Biographical History The Eagle Square Manufactoring Company was begun in 1817 after its founder invented the Metal Carpenter's Square. The factory was located in South Shaftsbury, Vermont. Their motto was "Since 1817 the Standard of Perfection has always been an Eagle Square." The squares were made of a single piece of steel and eventually came to be sold as galvinzed rust resistant steel. The squares were also packed in a rust resistant enamal container in addition to having hardened corners to prevent common wear from occuring.
