Letter from Harriet Cushman to her Grandmother, dated December 4, 1889 on "Mansfield Female College" stationery, located in Louisiana. Written on two folded sheets of lined paper. Good condition. In folder with several newspaper articles about it, one original, other photocopies. Also with mimeographs of correspondence of C. G. Bennett. Note from the same dated August 13, 1969 on Museum notepaper, "Attached, for the Library's files, are original of Harriet Cushman's letter of Dec. 4, 1859, describing her trip to the South to teach (she married, settled and spent the rest of her life down there) and explanatory documents."
Group of deeds related to the Cushman family, specifically Charles, Nathan, and Polly. Hand-written deed /will signed by Polly Cushman, dated in pencil on reverse, April 29, 1858; folded deed from John Cushman to Nathan Cushman, dated March 16, 1812, hand-written with wax seal; deed from J. Slason to N. Cushman, dated July 16, 1814, hand-written; printed deed of sale between J. Phillip Allen and Nathan Cushman, dated July 13, 1809; printed deed between Charles Cushman and Nathan Cushman, dated April 18, 1808. All deal with Bennington. Some in good condition, some fair, all creased and delicate at creases. Discolored.
