A group of Dewey family documents - 139 pieces in all. They cover approximately. 120 years, from 1769 to 1924.
The bulk of the collection is the various legal documents including leases, deeds, bills, contracts, accounts, estate appraisals, in addition to a copy of Eldad Dewey's Will and Probate Records. The documents bear the names of many Dewey family members such as Eldad, Charles E., Elijah, and Jedediah, as well as those of many area families.
Other records are related to Bennington, Vermont businesses which the Dewey family were a part of including the Bennington and Glastonbury Railroad, and the Bennington Iron Company. Also included is various correspondence written to members of the Dewey family.
Of particular note is a copy of Eldad Dewey's 1794 Dartmouth College Degree combined with a signed note from the Darmouth College President John Wheelock. Also of interest is the collection of Muster Rolls for the Fourth Company First Regiment First Brigade and Second Division of Militia in the State Vermont in Bennington. Occurring between 1824 and 1825. Along with a muster roll for Manchester, Vermont in 1824. Also included are a number of regimental orders to Captain Jedediah Dewey. Additionally there appears to be military maneuvers for a battalion (marching orders?).
