Administrative/Biographical History Isaac Jennings Jr. was the son of Rev. Isaac Jennings, who was the pastor of the old First Church. Upon his return to the area, Jennings himself served as pastor from 1905-1917. He was active in the Bennington Battle Monument and Historical Society, even serving as president of the society for a period of time. One of his first acts as president was to try and get a large marker created to stand at the site of the First Meeting House. Due to World War I this was unsuccessful. A marker was eventually placed in 1923. Jennings organized a celebration of the Battle of Bennington in August 1906 and gave a speech on the history of the Battle. Jennings wrote and delivered a number of addresses, many of which were delivered on the Sunday nearest to the anniversary of the Battle of Bennington, and historical papers on early Bennington history. Jennings had an agreement with John Spargo to donate copies of the speeches to the museum at a later date. The items here appear to be the working copies of these addresses.
