Large collection of Dewey family deeds and related property records. Includes correspondence around some land deals such as a transmission easement with New England Power and land sale to Finch, Pruyn and Company. There is a mixture of personal deeds and deeds related to A.J. Dewey and Sons Lumber. A few simple maps are included.

Dewey Family Documents - Dewey Family

A group of Dewey family documents - 139 pieces in all. They cover approximately. 120 years, from 1769 to 1924. The bulk of the collection is the various legal documents including leases, deeds, bills, contracts, accounts, estate appraisals, in addition to a copy of Eldad Dewey's Will and Probate Records. The documents bear the names of many Dewey family members such as Eldad, Charles E., Elijah, and Jedediah, as well as those of many area families. Other records are related to Bennington, Vermont businesses which the Dewey family were a part of including the Bennington and Glastonbury Railroad, and the Bennington Iron Company. Eldad Dewey Receipt - Vermont. Committee of Safety

Small piece of paper, hand-written receipt for gun from Lieutenant Eldad Dewey signed Nathaniel Spencer. Appraised by the Committee of Safety for forty shillings. Dated in Bennington, April 29, 1777.

Black leather trunk with slightly rounded top; tin band around middle; metal latch with leather cover; no handles; inside compartment lined with blue/white patterned paper; second inner compartment under inner lid also lined with blue/white paper; five small brass knob feet. Used by Eldad Dewey (1747-1821) children; used by succeeding generations of children for their playthings.

A pair of monogramed silver cuff links which belonged to Eldad Dewey of Bennington, Vermont. Small oval shape. One link is complete with two pieces, the other is a single piece.

Paper packaging for one dozen Drawers, size 40 from Green Mountain Knitting Mills in Bennington, Vermont. Stamped label in blue ink. Above this 1.00 is written in pencil. On opposite side is written in ink "H.F. Dewey Bennington By Express" and below this in pencil "One Doz White ____Shirts S F 62 1/2." Card with paper states the item was taken from a trunk in the attic of the Eldad Dewey House on Main Street in 1956. Card is now in object file.

Leaded glass candle lantern from the home of Elded Dewey (1747-1821) of Bennington, Vermont. Six sided, alternating blue and red stained glass with etched clear floral and bird pattern. Decorative palmette motif on top and metal beaded design on bottom. Clear glass bottom with metal holder for candle, three metal chains with square links to hang from. Colorless blown glass smoke shade (b) sits on top of knob where three chains meet. Folded lip, hole in center.

Corner cupboard from the Eldad Dewey house, Bennington, Vermont built in 1769. Made of white pine. Doors have molded panels, one centered small door at bottom and two tall ones at top. Three shelves in top part of cupboard with scalloped edges. Molding around sides. "H" hinges.
