Description Daguerreotype of Sarah Maria Brown. Portrait of a young woman seated from the knee up. Wearing a dark velvet clok with elaborate deep frige and large white bonnet decorated with feathers and lace with flowers under crown around the ears and large bow under chin, one glove removedto reveal a ring, hands clasped in lap holding a small folding parasol. She is slightly smiling. Light brown leatherette case with a harp, scrolls and geometric knot design on cover and a floral design surrounded by various decorative borders on the reverse. Faded purple silk on interior left. Dark grey paper mat with white accents around the oval opening. Glassed. Double hook and loop closure. Paper label on inside lid "Sarah Maria Brown (1804-1899), wife of Samuel H. Brown (her 1st cousin) Dau. of Park Brown and Brown and Mary Curtis Brown."
