Object Fowler
Year Range to 1777
Description Gun (a) and ram rod (b) used in the Battle of Bennington and carried by Jesse Jenks of New Providence, now Cheshire, Massachusetts. Long fowling piece. Engraved on top of barrel "G. Mathewson" (George Mathewson). "J.J." engraved on silver knob on top of breech, carved shell motif above knob. Brass plates elaborately engraved. Converted to percussion cap type. Stamped on lockplate "W. Ketland". Cherry wood.
55" barrel. 70 3/4" overall.
Very finely made throughout. Ketland lock converted. Cherry stock. Brass hardware; very sound, clean piece, fine condition.
