Description Pair of Brass candlesticks owned and used by James Seymour Merrill (1810-1876) and his wife, Laura Hubbell Van der Speigel (1820-1903). Each has a square base which tapers up into a spherical stem. The stem begins to widen as it reaches the top, then narrows again. Round candlehole and base at top. Remains of the candle in the holes. (b) has dried white wax stuck to the bottom base.
