Description Maroon velvet shelf decoration embroidered by Julie Shortt in the 1890s. Floral and leaf pattern Arrasene embroidery (chenille thread). Arrasene embroidery originated in France and consists of a central cord covered with a pile of wool or silk which is used for embroidery. Lower part of piece decorated with chenille pompoms (four missing). Chenille and gold cording at top. Back lined with maroon silk.
