Three personal letters addressed to Hon. David Crawford, Putney, Vermont. Dated 1817, 1818, and 1846. The letters concern David Crawford's injury in the War of 1812 and his attempt to obtain a pension. The first two letters are from Gordon P. Spencer. The July 16, 1817 letter recounts that Spencer does not know too much of Crawford's wound as he was sent from Fort Erie before the skirmish took place being placed in charge of Invalids and British Prisoners. The second letter from Spencer on November 23, 1818 details his plan to send information to Washington. The last letter from C. L. Knapp in Lowell, Massachusetts on March 24, 1846 briefly mentions Crawford's lame limb before discussing Vermont Governor William Slade and Senator Samuel Phelps. The last letter in collection is regarding their sale from Charles E. Tuttle to Hall Park McCullough. |
