Scope & Content |
Correspondence to and from Hiland Hall. Some refer to politics, later letters relate more to his research on Vermont history and subsequent publication. Particularly interesting 1840 letter from Hall to Henry A. Wise, asking him to address a barbeque in celebrating Bennington Battle Day. He mentions that they must outdo a meeting their political opponents have the day after where Governor Van Ness will speak and ensure the "triumphant onward march of Whig principles." Wise's response regretfully informs Hall that he cannot attend. |
