The collection consists of a number of records related to the Hawks family of Bennington, Vermont. The majority of the documents are related to William E. Hawks Sr. and William E. Hawks Jr. They range from personal materials to business records. The former includes an engraving of Hawks Sr., to report cards for Hawks Jr., and two invitations to his wedding addressed to close family. The business records in the collection include an advertisement for Hawk's Jr. as he attempted to collect information related to the history of the Western United States. However, the majority of business records relate to the Civil War including various invoices, military passes, and shipping orders. Also a part of the collection are a few items related to Hawks Sr.'s father-in-law Major Samuel Brown related to his work as well as acknowledgements from the Old First Church Pastor Issac Jennings for his semi-annual paycheck. Miscellaneous records include a lecture ticket to the 1870-1871 season of the Young Men's Association in Bennington, Vermont, a Postcard of the old post office, and a memorial booklet mourning the deaths of Park Valentine and his wife Lousia Gaylord and Trenor W. Park. |
