Large ledger with "Bennington [date] Furnace" at the top of most pages. Likely belonging to Bennington Iron Company. Subsequently used as scrapbook. Most uncovered ledger pages dated 1824. Covered pages (about 1/3 of the book) likely dated 1823. Names include Knapp, Plumb, Selden, Wood, Cutler, Godfrey, Stiles, and Winslow. Three inscriptions on first page: "John Knapp, Sep. 12 - 1920," "SCRAP-BOOK - 1863 - By P. and L. Bingham," and again "Mr. John E. Knapp, Sep 12 - 1920." Clippings are undated, but research of three obituaries returns the years 1853, 1853 (again), and 1857. |
