Handwritten document/note in ink pertaining to provenance of jug (object A525) noting that 'this jug was presented to Miss Ominda Armstrong by Mr. Abel Wadsworth when the former was a little girl + this 22nd day of March 1878. It was presented to me by the same lady, ...Mrs Jethro Gerry." Signed Geo. W. Robinson, June 9, 1898. Notation in pencil below ink "Aug 14 1901 at least over 100 years old". Label under glass "Jug made at the Original Bennington Pottery/Mrs. Jethro Gerry gave the first subscription toward the cost of building the Bennington Battle Monument. She long owned one of the Red Coats taken from the British (Hessian soldiers killed at the Battle of Bennington. The coat is now owned by Hall McCullough Esq. Mrs. Gerry was born in 1788 and died in 1880." |
