Last Will and Testament of Benjamin Harwood, Sr. (1713-59). Two sheets. Signed by Timothy Dwight, Justice. Handwritten in ink, conveying his properties in Hampshire County, Massachusetts to his widow, Bridget Harwood, who came on horseback among the first settlers to Bennington, Vermont. Harwood also divides his property up among his family leaving his two eldest sons Peter and Eleazor Harwood as the executors of his will. Harwood's will is especially notable as many of his family members will soon join the first wave of settlers establishing Bennington, Vermont. |
