Ira Allen, brother of Ethan Allen was an important 18th century Vermont politician. After developing land with his brother Ethan Allen of Green Mountain Boy fame, he went on to become a historian, author of the VT constitution, state treasurer, and designers of the state seal. It was his leadership that led to the establishment of a land grant university system in the state resulting in the founding of the University of Vermont. |
