Merchant. Born in Colrain, Massachusetts he moved with his family to Bennington about 1769. Brothers include James, John, and David. A Scotch-Irish family, they settled at Riverside in the northwest corner of Bennington, an area known as "Irish Corners." Young William dissolved a partnership with Solomon Henderson in 1797, and he was a town representative from 1805-1811. He was elected justice of the peace and served from 1801 to 1840, thirty-nine years, and served as Probate Judge from 1821-24. |
