Jonathan Hunt (1787 - 1832) came from a distinguished Vermont family. His grandfather and father both served the Republic, and later State, of Vermont in a number of public roles. After a Dartmouth education, he set up a law practice in Brattleboro, Vermont. He served in the Vermont militia, the Vermont legislature, and eventually represented Vermont in the United States Congress. Jonathan amplified his already significant wealth through land purchases in the newly opened Midwest. In 1832 he contracted cholera and died while serving Congress in Washington, DC. |
