Appointed colonel of Massachusetts regiment from Newburyport area. Third in command of operations of the American fleet on Lake Champlain under Benedict Arnold and Horatio Gates. Spent his entire fortune on the Revolutionary War and died penniless. Member of the Lodge of St. Andrew in Boston, 1781.
