Readsboro Chair Manufacturing Company - The Readsboro Chair Factory was started in 1873 and sold a variety of furniture pieces throughout the country. The most popular items manufactured at the factory were desks and folding chairs, used in auditoriums, meeting places, and steamships. The Readsboro Chair Factory changed hands several times during its long history. The Newton brothers ran it in 1887 and renamed it the Readsboro Chair Manufacturing Company. The factory switched hands in 1913 and the name changed to the Readsboro Chair Company. In the 1950s, Gerardo Bolognani, John Maroni, and Arthur Eccher Sr. owned the factory and the business became to the Readsboro Chair Shop. The factory was later renamed Vermont Chair Inc., H.N. Sawyer Inc., and Vermont Hardwood. The factory fell on hard times in the mid-1980s and closed its doors in 1988. The building was demolished in 1995. The chair factory may have employed up to 100 workers during its prime years.
