Contains Legal (1793-1830), United States Marshall tenure (1813-1817), Political (1818-1828). Legal material includes items from his twenty-two years as sheriff, requests to pay taxes, collect on court ordered executions, bail statements and the like. The bail statements are for William Marsh and William Phelps, both of Pownal. The right hand of both shows rodent damage. Various receipts and bills, both personal and as sheriff, a list of deeds in the Robinson District of Woodford, and draft letters regarding cases. U.S. Marshall related documents, include one 1816 receipt for 1815 taxes collected, one appointing Heman Robinson as Deputy Marshall in 1817, an 1819 letter from Silas Hathaway regarding his pension application, and a letter from Shiveric Holmes, jailer at St. Albans, regarding the escape of Silas Hathaway; one letter from David Marsh to Colonel Merrill and Captain Robinson regarding a pending court case. In the political papers is a letter from Hayes of Galletan County, Kentucky from March 1819, and an undated two page document on slavery that may be incomplete (it starts with page 3), but it refers to the Compromise of 1850. There are several letters to O. C. Merrill, William P. Graham, James Munroe (President, 1818), Heman Allen, John C. Calhoun (Secretary of War), Samuel Fay and J. A. Walker.
