1797-1811 |
Description |
Personal family letters, primarily to Colonel David Robinson, his second wife Eunice Dickinson Robinson, and his third wife Nancy Caldwell Church Robinson. There are three undated letters: one to "My Dear Aunt," Mrs. Eunice Robinson, author unknown; one to "Dear Cousin" from P. Dickinson (probably Patty) of Middletown, Connecticut; and a third to David Robinson from Jonathan Dickinson regarding purchase of a phaeton. There is a 1796 letter from Heman Swift, a 1797 receipt for Micah J. Lyman on Isaac Smith's account, a letter from Jesse Field to Obadiah Dickinson regarding an 1802 visit by Colonel Robinson, a letter from Elijah Hubbard, and a payment order from Abiathar Angel to John Angel witnessed by Colonel Robinson. One letter from David Robinson is dated Bennington February 11, 1803 to Eunice, 16 days before they were married. He relates telling his friends and family about her, answering their questions, and sends measurements if she would like to buy carpets for the bedroom or redecorate. Other letters are from Eunice's brother and mother dated the month following the wedding, several letters to "Dear Sister," and "Dear Children," "My sister Eunice," and Dear daughter" between 1804 and 1804. One letter in 1808 reports that Patty Dickinson is unwell, that Mr. Hubbard died, and Eunice's mother had broken her wrist six months earlier but was now under the care of a "bone setter." There is an 1810 letter from Edward Campbell 2nd of Bellows Falls to David Robinson, and two letters from David to his son Heman, one about the Fourth of July activities. Another letter from 1810 reports that Enoch Payson's wife Sally is in a "state of distraction, quite wild and destitute of reason." HPM 757, 809, 833, 842, 905, 943, 973, 994, 1016 |
