Typscript of diaries kept by Benjamin Harwood and his son Hiram Harwood between 1805 and 1837 in Bennington, Vermont. First volume in handwriting in Benjamin, but remainders transcribed by Hiram until October 23, 1810, when Hiram took over the diary entirely. Entries record farm activities, family matters, visiting, neighbors, religion, politics, entertainment, and business including cider and cheese making and marketing. Hiram's entries in particular often include his opinions on a wide variety of topics. There are many mentions of the Norton pottery business (Captain John Norton lived nearby). Paperbound index to volumes 4,5, and 6 made by Harwood. |
