Information |
Bennington pulled out all the stops to celebrate the Battle of Bennington centennial. This arch, built across the intersection of Main Street and North and South Streets, was a temporary structure erected for the celebration. The inscriptions on the top are Gen. Stark's famous words, "There are the red-coats; they are ours, or Molly Stark sleeps a widow to-night." and, "Peace hath her victories, no less renowned than war." The parade on August 16th included United States President Rutherford B. Hayes. |
