Caption printed on back, "The Battle of Bennington, Aug. 16, 1777, was one of the most important and decisive in the history of our Country. It was largely a hand to hand conflict participated in by from 3,500 to 4,000 men, in which the Americans, under Gen. John Stark, stormed the breastwork of Col. Baum and after five hours of fighting won a most notable victory, killing or capturing more than half of the British forces." One of a series of 36 postcards by Griswold. |
