Daguerreotype of Anthony Johnson Haswell (1780-1856), the eldest son of Anthony Haswell's 12 children. Portrait of old man, balding with white hair from waist up. Seated holding a book and spectacles. Wearing a dark coat fully buttoned and bowtie over a light shirt. Stern expression on his face. In light brown leatherette case, with central flower design on front and radiating scroll design on back. Faded red velvet on inside left with scroll design surrounding a single flower in the center. Simple brass frame. Glassed. Simple brass matt with decorative rectagonal opening. Double loop and hook closure. |
