Description |
Daguerreotype (half plate size) of the wood statue of Ethan Allen by Benjamin Kinney, noted Vermont sculptor. From this daguerreotype was made, under Kinney's personal supervision, the well-known engraving of the statue. The image is covered with a brass mat with an oval shaped opening. The cover (b) of the case is lined with a red velvet. The velvet is decorated with scrolls around the outside and a central design with an oval and a curving border. The outside of the case is again decorated with a lyre, scrolls and floral imagery on the cover and a simple square and faint lines on the side holding the daguerreotype. Cover is probably not original to case. |
