Information |
Frank Goldsborough held the junior transcontinental air speed record when his plane crashed in a dense fog in Woodford, Vermont on July 15, 1930. His passenger Don Mockler was dazed but only bruised by the crash. Mockler was unable to extricate the pilot from the wreckage and went for help. It was 18 hours before rescuers were able to locate the plane in the forest. Goldsborough was rescued alive, but not conscious. He was carried away by rescuers on a makeshift stretcher made from a parachute to the home of Harry C. Jenkins and taken by ambulance to the Putnam Hospital in Bennington. Goldsborough died on July 16, 1930 in Bennington, Vermont without regaining consciousness. It was his twentieth birthday. |
