Information |
The Rutland Light Guard was formed in the spring of 1859 with Horace Henry Baxter as its captain. The formation of the volunteer unit was part of a revitalization of the state's militia in the late 1850s as the possibility of Civil War loomed. In October of 1859 Baxter was elected Adjutant and Inspector General of Vermont. After that appointment he ordered this hat from Bent & Bush of Boston. |
