Painting by Grandma Moses, "The Old Ox Cart". Small landscape depicts man on dirt road waving a whip in front of a cart pulled by oxen. Cart stocked with barrels. Small one and a half story grey house in background surrounded by large evergreen trees. Moses label on back of painting with date, September 6, 1948, title and Moses number 1288. Note above label (appears to be Grandma Moses' handwriting) "Mr. Hitchcock who had General Store in Cambridge driving his oxen to Troy for supplies." |

Grandma Moses wrote on the back of The Old Ox Cart. "Mr. Hitchock who had a general store in Cambridge his oxen to Troy for supplies." The Old Ox Cart is unusual among Moses' work because it features only one figure against an uncomplicated landscape. |
