Information |
The Confiance was the British flagship in the Battle of Lake Champlain. Unlike the American ships, the Confiance was unsuccessful in attempting a pivot maneuver so that a fresh side of the ship could face the enemy. Instead her undefended stern was left facing American fire. After two hours of being bombarded with cannon fire, the Confiance was sinking. The British were forced to surrender. Sixty years after the War of 1812, the wreck of the Confiance was raised. Pieces of the ship were sold as souvenirs. |
