Information |
Though depicting an outdoor scene, this painting is unlike Moses’ typically expansive landscapes that recede into infinity. The foreground is tilted upright as in many of her landscapes, but the large brick building and trees act as a scrim, creating a stage-like setting. The theatrical foreground is filled with nearly thirty figures that are engaged in a number of wedding-related vignettes, some romantic and others whimsical. Moses depicts multiple couples and multiple moments in time, eschewing linear narrative to convey the overall feel of a joyous event rather than a specific moment in a specific wedding. |
