Powder horn of John Hale of Pennicook, New Hampshire. Inscribed: "John Hale is my Name/ English is my Nation/ Pennycook my Dwelling place/ Christ My Salvation/ May ye 9 Day Ano Dno 1764." Unusually fine map engraving of what is now Penacook, New Hampshire and surround towns. Includes town lines, names, rivers, lakes, and a few landmarks. At end is "Crowne Lands." Wooden plug. |

Capt. John Hale (1743-1792) served in the New Hampshire militia under Col. John Stark. He was 49 years old at the time of the Battle of Bennington. Pennicook is now a village within the city of Concord, New Hampshire. |
