Balls from four famous battles-Saratoga, N.Y. 1777, Hubbardton, Vt., 1777, Ticonderoga, N.Y. and Plattsburg, N.Y. 1814. They are kept in a wooden case. The wood case (a) is stained a dark color on the sides, but is lighter on top. The balls are lined up in a row from smallest to largest. The smallest is a light gray color from the Battle of Saratoga (b). It is only round on one side. The next is from the Battle of Hubbardton. (c) It is the darkest in color, nearly black with signs of rust. The next is labelled The Battle of Ticonderoga (d). It has various spots of dark colored rust mixed with spots of lighter rust. The largest is from the Battle of Plattsburgh (e). It is a red rust color. |
