Information |
Though the Wagon Repair Shop is loosely based on a Currier & Ives print, Moses transformed that original image, rearranging the figural groups and subtracting or adding elements. One month earlier, she had used the same source for Horse Shoeing. The Wagon Repair Shop scene bustles with activity, each figure is happily engaged in a task. Men are watering, shoeing, and feeding the horses as groups of figures are about to dash off in a wagon. In the distance diligent toil is evident in the grid of neatly tended fields and the orderly village in the valley. Even nature is alive with activity, as a pair of bluebirds flies over the barn. The scene is a testament to Moses' belief that hard work brought happiness. |
