Information |
Believing that, "if you know somethin' well, you can always paint it," Grandma Moses painted winter scenes throughout the year. In fact, she painted this season more than any other. Perhaps this was because, as she told Life magazine in1960, her winter scenes brought higher prices, even though she thought, "People would be better off buying chickens." Aesthetically speaking, the appeal of Moses' winter scenes may be due to the fact that her already bright palette became even more vibrant against a snowy white background. This combined with the fact that Moses' winter pictures frequently focus on rollicking seasonal recreation make them a visual delight. |
