Information |
When he was only 34, James White fell and injured his spine. He spent the remainder of his life in a wheelchair. No longer able to continue working as a clerk, he taught himself to paint. He painted this delicate watercolor when covered bridges were still an important part of Vermont's transportation system. The rise of motor traffic in the early 1900s threatened covered bridges due to a steep increase in transportation needs. This Old North Road ran from the Monument to near where the Price Chopper is today. The road and bridge no longer exist. |
