Model 1808 Musket in original flint mechanism (a) with metal ram rod (b). Made by firm of French, Blake and Kinsley, Canton, Mass. Marked on lock, "T French, Canton, 1811". Wood is dark color, full stock. Metal loops for strap near trigger gaurd and halfway up barrel. |

With war clouds gathering in Europe and the possibility that America would become involved, Congress authorized the procurement of 85,000 muskets from 19 different makers. Only about 1/2 were delivered. The firm of French, Blake and Kinsley of Canton, Mass., furnished 4,000 muskets, this one being dated 1811. |
