Administrative/Biographical History |
In 1843 the Champlain and Connecticut River Railroad Company was chartered in Vermont. In 1847 the name was changed to the Rutland and Burlington Railroad Company and the road was constructed from Burlington to Bellows Falls in 1849. The Vermont Central Railroad Company was chartered October 31, 1843, subscriptions opened for stock in 1845, and construction on the line from Burlington to Windsor began in 1849. The Western Vermont Railroad Company was chartered on November 5, 1845. The Bennington and Rutland Railroad Company was formed from the Western Vermont on August 1, 1865. |
