Notes |
"Lizzie" was born in Bennington, but spent most of her childhood in California where her father Trenor Park amassed a fortune during the gold rush. When the family returned to Vermont, her father built the mansion in North Bennington that bears the family’s name. She married her father’s business associate John McCullough August 30, 1871 and the couple had four children together. When he died in 1915 she was dismayed by the shabby state of the cemetery and donated money to put in a fence and maintain the graves. She was also responsible for the construction of the library North Bennington which opened August 24, 1921 and which she named in her husband’s honor. |
