Old Stone House (North Bennington, Vt.) |
Details |
The Stone House was a classic example of early American architecture. Built of Vermont bluestone in 1838 by Truman Estes, a local businessman on Water Street in North Bennington (VT Route 67A). About 1868, the house passed into the hands of the Henry T. Cushman family; it became a showcase for the Cushman Colonial Creations furniture line manufactured by the H.T. Cushman Company across the street. The founder's daughter Caroline Cushman Wellington was responsible for the interior decorating. The business was sold in 1964 and the Stone House about 1978. |
