All ten children born in Hardwick before move to Bennington. Captain of Massachusetts militia during French and Indian War. Deacon in the Separatists church in Hardwick, Massachusetts. First justice of the peace appointed in the New Hampshire Grants by Benning Wentworth. Arrested by New York when he decided in favor of a resident of the grants. In 1765 sent to New York City to negotiate the safety of settlers grants with New York owners that were given patents by Lieutenant Governor Colden. When that failed was sent by the settlers to London to preserve their land purchases. He died from small pox in London in 1767. |
