Came to Vermont in the 1930s from Manhattan, New York. Created mural and history paintings with the WPA in the 1930s. Served in the Navy during the Spanish-American War. Worked for the National Survey in Chester, Vermont making maps. Wife was an opera singer and silent film actress who claimed Cherokee Indian and Spanish descent. Her father was Thaddeus Barrington Grymes/Grimes and her mother Caroline Hurley. |
