Born in what is now Old Bennington, VT. Samuel Brown (1804-1887) transformed himself from modest beginnings to a pillar of the community. He worked at a number of mercantile trades before finally settling in the iron industry. His mines and foundries, later sold to Olin Scott, provided much prosperity for Bennington, VT. Starting in 1853 he served as Judge of the County Court for Bennington. In 10/10/1826 he married his first cousin, Sarah Maria Brown. Major 2nd Division, Vermont Militia, 1829. |
