Notes |
Had nine children. Worked as a clerk in New York City and returned to Bennington in 1843. He was in charge of General David Robinson's estate (administrator?). In 1848, as stagecoach travel was about to end, he purchased Hick's Tavern and changed its name to Walloomsac House. Bennington was a very popular summer destination, but Robinson had money problems and creditors forced him to sell the hotel. Part of his financial troubles may have been due to his attempt to build observatory towers on Mt. Anthony that had a habit of succumbing to high winds. Some sources, including the Bennington Souvenir, give his death date as 5/18/1867, but his obituary and the Day Papers clearly state that he died in 1890 of Hodgekin's Disease. |
