Moses Robinson came to Bennington with his father in 1761. He was elected town clerk and served 1762-1781. He was a member of the Counsil of Safety and held the rank of Colonel during the Revolutionary War. In 1789 he was elected Deacon of the First Congregational Church and served until his death in 1813. He was a member of the Governor's Council from 1778-1785, Chief Justice of the Vermont Courts 1778-1789, Governor 1789-1790, appointed commissioner to settle the jurisdiction question with New York in 1790, U.S. Senator 1791-1796, and Vermont state represenative 1802. |
